Asmita wants to serve poor, downtrodden

NAGPUR: Asmita Gedekar, a student of Shri Gajanan Vidyalaya, New Subhedar Layout, has probably topped the city with an aggregate of 98.36% marks, with 100% score in mathematics and science.
Elated at being the city topper, a beaming Asmita said, "I am extremely happy and satisfied. There is a sense of fulfilment and it feels like my dream has come true.My dream of topping the region has been fulfilled."
She believes in regular self study and consistent efforts, and said that her parents were a constant source of inspiration for her. Acknowledging that tuitions help to be persistent in efforts, Asmita said she wants to become a doctor and is now working towards this dream.
Expressing a burning desire to help needy people, Asmita aims to help the poor and downtrodden in the society who are victims of ignorance. She said, "I am disturbed by the current situation of our country. Everyday we get to read about lower class children being deprived of many rights that others enjoy. Why should socioeconomic difference create disparity among citizens?"
Apart from academics, Asmita loves drawing and reading books, specially fiction.
Her parents said, "Our daughter's success has left us speechless. We are extremely proud of her. Seeing the consistency and perseverance she showed for the last few years, we were sure that our daughter would make it big."
Vijay Shahakar, principal of Asmita's school, said, "Two years back, a student from our school had secured the fourth position in Nagpur division. Now, Asmita has made us very proud by topping the city. This year 34 students from our school have secured 90% and above marks."
He said Asmita has always been a sincere child. "She has been in our school since standard I, so we have seen her grow. Her performance has been stupendous all round the year," he added.
